Divorce is an integral familial and legal issue within every religion, intrinsically tied to the institution of marriage. Even in contemporary society, overlooking the concept of divorce can result in social harm, compelling individuals to continue a life devoid of desire or satisfaction. At times, the circumstances and characteristics of the spouses lead to discord, ultimately resulting in divorce. However, in both Christianity and Zoroastrianism, the teachings of religious authorities seemingly emphasize a strong aversion to the notion of divorce, suggesting that once a marriage is established, it should be indissoluble. Therefore, to clarify this matter, the present study investigates the nature and conditions of divorce based on the sacred texts of these two religions.
The comparative analysis of the two sets of religious texts reveals that divorce has existed in both traditions. Despite the distinct conditions required for divorce in each faith, the act of adultery emerges as a common prerequisite for its execution. This article employs a comparative and library-based methodology.
